Should a person of trust and authority receive a stiffer penalty than that of a normal citizen?
The reason I ask is that a 21 year veteran of the Colorado state patrol was recently arrested in his police cruiser in uniform for a DUI he agreed to do the sobriety check and couldn’t walk and when taken to a sublet station he registered a .194 BAC. As most law enforcement will tell you that when they catch a person driving under the influence they have done it multiple times before.
Being that he chose a career to protect and serve the citizens of colorado and ineptly put them all in harms way shouldn’t he receive a harsher penalty?

They could attach some additional sentences on people in position of authority who were sworn to uphold standards, after they have been convicted. Like teachers abusing students, corrupt police, and corrupt priests.
