Should I get a public defender for my first Dui?

So first off I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for my actions. I know what I did was wrong and I’m very ashamed of myself for this for life. But I still have a life to life so I need to make the best of it. I’m 23 Boise Idaho native never been arrested for anything or even have a speeding ticket. But the other night I was arrested for DUI. I did blow and blew a .12 . Now the question is should I hire a Lawyer to defend me or take a shot with a Public defender. I talked with a few DUI lawyers that say they can get me a withheld judgment and reduce the fines and jail time. For 1500 cash, but I really don’t have that kind of cash and after talking to them it sounds like there just pushing papers for me. All fine and dandy but can I push my own papers and let the public defender get me the same deal? OR should I find 1500?

my advice is to never use a public defender for such a serious crime. a DUI is the one offense that will come to haunt you for the rest of your life. what you need to do is beg or borrow the money to get the best lawyer that money can buy. i also don’t know if you have any other crimes on record but, if not you should also see about getting the DUI expunged from your record. when you go to look for a job, no matter how long down the road,a condo,house,gun permit,etc.. that DUI will be there,unless it expunged. that is very serious. i cant tell you how many people i know that have ran into this problem, all over a bad time in there life or just a bad choice after a night of ‘having a good time’. hope this helps and if you’re smart you’ll ask your parents for some help and just be honest with them and I’m sure they’ll hep you out considering the severity of the matter. good luck and if you find you cant stop drinking when you think you should and its getting you in too much trouble. get you but to a meeting.
