Personal Injury Lawyers: Are They As Bad As Everyone Says?
The state of Florida is huge, so it make sense there would be more auto accidents and personal injury cases than in almost any other state in the union. That would account for there being so many Florida personal injury attorneys. Some people call these people “ambulance chasers” but that’s often not a fair assessment.
For example, think of the true story told in the movie Erin Brokovich. Can you imagine what would have happened to all those families that were dying of cancer and other diseases because of PG&E’s outright lying and negligence if a caring attorney (aided by the very stubborn Ms. Brokovich, of course) hadn’t been involved? Granted, that story wasn’t about personal injury attorneys from Florida but the principle is the same everywhere: personal injury attorneys go after settlements for people who’ve been wronged and deserve compensation. Some of these people would be disabled with no way to make incomes if they didn’t have attorneys to act as advocates to get them the financial settlements they need to live. Some of the people we saw in Erin Brokovich were children who couldn’t defend themselves. And in some cases the parents were just as sick as the children, so they didn’t have the energy to fight for them. If a personal injury attorney hadn’t stepped in, those people wouldn’t have had the resources to get the medical care they needed or to support them when they became permanently disabled.
Yes, I know there are some lawyers who have rightfully earned the name ambulance chaser. People usually think of them as sleazes with greasy hair and cheap suits who listen to police radios while waiting for accidents to happen. There may be a few attorneys like that but they certainly aren’t the majority. I know for a fact that in the Sunshine State there are many Florida car accident attorneys that have a lot of integrity. Just as with all other groups, you can’t judge. You or somone you know might just need their help someday. If it meant their being able to survive financially after an accident, I’ll bet you that most people would see personal injury and accident lawyers in a new light.
